Lyrics

I wake up every morning
With my head up in a daze
I’m not sure if I should say this fuck’ I’ll say it anyway
Everybody tries to tell me that I’m going through a phase I don’t know if it’s a phase
I just wanna feel okay
I battle with depression but the question still remains is this post traumatic stressin’ or
Am I suppressing rage and my doctor tries to tell me that I’m going through a phase yea it’s not a fucking phase I just wanna feel okay
Okay yea I battle with this bullshit everyday
and it’s probably cause my demons simultaneously rage.
And it obliterates me
Disintegrates me
Annihilates me

Cause I’m about to break down
Searching for a way out
I’m a liar I’m a cheater I’m a non-believer
I’m a popular, popular monster
I break down falling into love now
With falling apart
I’m a popular popular monster

I think I’m going nowhere like a rat trapped in a maze
Every wall that I knock down is just a wall that I replace I’m in a race against myself I try to keep a steady pace
how the fuck will I escape if I never close my case?
Whoa.
Oh my god I keep on stressin’ every second
That I waste is another second sooner to a blessing’ I won’t take but my therapist will tell me that I’m going through a stage it’s not a fucking stage I just wanna feel okay
Okay motherfucker now you got my attention
I need to change a couple things cause something is missin’
and what if I were to lie?
Tell you everything is fine
Every single fucking day I get closer to the grave I am terrified
I fell asleep at the wheel again
Crashed my car just to feel again
It obliterates me
Disintegrates me
Annihilates me
Cause

I’m about to break down
Searching for a way out
I’m a liar I’m a cheater
I’m a non believer
I’m
A popular, popular monster
I break down falling into love now
With falling apart
I’m a popular, popular fucking
MONSTER

Here we go again motherfucker.

We’re sick and tired of wondering
Praying to a god that you don’t believe
We’re Searching for the truth in the lost and found
So the question I ask is
Where the fuck is your god now?

This song is therapeutic for me when I am dealing with mine. Blast it in the vehicle and it just gets all those emotions out. For Ronnie, I read that this song is about his depression. His mom was a drug addict and absence for most of his childhood which led him to have a trouble passed as he was growing up and into young adulthood.

The more I listen to this band the more I find music that expresses the chaos and darkness in my own head. It's a dangerous place in here and a constant fight for survival. I'm saddened that others do know and can relate to where I'm at and somehow at the same time a little relieved not to be as totally alone as my mind tries to convince me I am. This rollercoaster ride is exhausting and not one that I can ever get off of. I'm worn out to absolute exhaustion, weakened and weary.

@Mandaislove17

This song shows the side of pure rage to feeling depressed and tired of not being okay and things not working out. It's beyond frustrating. Makes you wanna cry a lot, but sometimes you just want scream and rage! Exactly how I feel right now.

@AmyPoindexter-j4v

I suffer from depression, severe anxiety, and I'm bopolar and just found out I have psychosis.. this song hits the facts so hard

@feliciaschemonia7764

This song got me out of depression.

3
@majogl188

Linkin Park brought me to this band and this song... I can see why... Depression is not just sadness and lethargy, it's very much about the rage at being helpless in the state you find yourself in. Chester chanelled that rage very well and gave voice to what I've felt since childhood, and I feel the same about this too.

@MorningBeer69

That transition from I’m a popular, popular fucking
MONSTER to that scream is INSANE, one of my top 3 moments in metal for sure.

@Slcmum123

This song saved my life this week. ❤

@RachelCastanza

It’s time I tell my story. When this song came out I was in and out of jail, addicted, and homeless. Now I have a husband, home and good job. This song and “Clover Cage - The Final Round” are the two songs that helped me get through my depression. I just want people to know things do get better. We are in this together. :) you are worthy of love and good things happening to you

He can rap,scream and can turn up into melodious voice...rare singer

@rangellowry2585

Most people think of depression as the deep sadness. They dont realize that there is a underlying rage about being helpless and feeling that nothing will every get better. This song exemplifies that rage.

Edited: Damn I did not expect this comment to blow up. I appreciate you all taking time to understand what I took from this song. Depression is very real and sucks. If you are going through anything I hope you get through it. I hope you stay strong and beat it.

@francescol9868

A lot of songs about depression focus on the quiet sadness of it, but this capture the pure, seething rage of feeling broken beyond repair

@krystalrene6683

I love how his daughter is the one that brings him back

@annahausdorfer349

My parents hate this song.
Me being the perfect daughter I am: plays this every day at least 40 times.

@leilalawrence9776

"I battle with depression, but the question still remains
Is this post-traumatic stressing or am I suppressing rage?" This hit close to home but damn the whole song does

@halfheart3290

That line “it’s not a fucking phase, I just want to feel ok”, that hits hard.

@raysofrosie

I feel like this song is a physical embodiment of how it feels to live with depression. At first you just talk about it. You try to express yourself with words only the people that are supposed to help you just tell you it’s a phase or you’re just going through a dark patch and it’ll be over soon. Then you start getting aggravated because it DOESNT stop. It keeps growing and growing and getting stronger and you are just completely drowning so you get a little louder, only no one around you helps. Everyone gives you the whole “god has a plan, he has a plan” and you can’t live with the fact that he could do this to you.Then you just snap. You break, you scream, you become the monster you believed you were the whole time, the one thing you were petrified of becoming and completely lose your shit (expressed by the physical change into the monster) and basically black out. When you come to, everything is ruined and you have no idea what you’ve just done and are horrified with yourself.

This is so fucking powerful and will be something I’ll listen to religiously.

@bannahananah

That drop that starts when he screams "I'm terrified!" Is just perfection, PERFECTION!

@carljthatsme94

Epitaph Records: "....yeah, sure we'll sign you. What genre are you again?"

Falling in Reverse: "Yes"

@zanderj9335

I'm not a big fan of Falling In Reverse but losing someone sucks. Rest in Peace Derek.

Edit: the time of writing this comment I wasn't a fan of them but over the years I became a fan.

@seansaxon641

I'm a 50 year old driving to work this morning, when this comes on SixiusXM. I usually listen to classic rock, and new music seldom gets my attention. This song hooked me from the get-go. Hope you don't mind an old dude head banging a little to your art. Great tune!

2,366
@TheShanesousley

Ronnie writes a hard hitting song about living with depression

Everyone in the comments:"Im not a Vampire, Im a werewolf"

954
@haleyrosemccrary2891

that scream he did was fabulous, the way he went from softly singing to screaming was absolutely amazing

955
@jeremiahjohnson8053

“Every second I get closer to the grave and I’m terrified” hits hard man

971
@EvonyYin2Yang

The range of this dude's vocals....... The rap, switched to rock, and metal seamlessly.... the lyrics..... dude musicians need to start exploring their skill more like this! INSANE!

7,656
@aFloppyWalrus

When Ronnie sings “we’re falling apart” in that last hook... that shit hits deep!

648
@Phoenix_palmer

This is what he meant when he said “I’m not a vampire”

1,499
@misfitsdanzig2374

Ronnie: *was raised by wolves*
Also Ronnie: *is not a vampire*
Also Ronnie: *is a werewolf*
Now that’s what I call consistency 👌🏻

Can't deny he seems to be in his element. For what he's going for, he seems to have nailed it.

902
@usmcgregalunas

They should headline a tour called "bars and breakdowns"

483
@starwarschickab

I love how, in every video, his daughter is his anchor back to reality.

21,176
@WoeTheRomans

Ok. Everyone needs to stop telling Ronnie that he's just going through a phase.
